Meet Monica P. Ruela -
Principal Attorney and Elder Law Advocate
With over 20 years of experience, Monica P. Ruela has dedicated her career to advocating for seniors and their families. Her journey in elder law began at the young age of 16 when she worked at an elder law firm while putting herself through college and law school. This hands-on experience, combined with her passion for helping others, laid the foundation for her distinguished legal career.
Monica earned her J.D. from Touro College Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center, graduating cum laude in 2011. She also holds a B.A. in Psychology from St. John’s University, where she graduated magna cum laude. Her educational background in both law and psychology equips her with a unique perspective when addressing the complex needs of elderly clients and their families.
Monica is an active member of the New York State Bar Association (NYSBA) and the Nassau County Bar Association, where she contributes to various committees, including Elder Law, Social Services & Health Advocacy, and Young Lawyers. She has served on the Executive Committee of the Elder Law and Special Needs Section and co-chaired the Best Practices Subcommittee of the Committee on Women in the Law.
Monica’s expertise extends beyond legal practice to thought leadership. She has authored articles such as “Assisted Living Program – An Alternative to a Nursing Home” and “Protect This House – Tax Implications of Ownership Transfers,” both featured in the Nassau Lawyer publication. Her knowledge and experience make her a sought-after speaker, frequently invited to lecture at bar associations, industry conferences, and community events on topics like elder care, estate planning, Medicaid, and special needs planning.
Recognized for her dedication and excellence, Monica has been selected for inclusion in the Super Lawyers New York Metro Rising Stars list from 2016 to 2022.
